How did anyone anywhere get the notion that a helmet actually makes you safer in a bike collision. They're even marginal protecting your head in the few cases of collisions that involve your head. If you're convinced cycling makes you safer cycling by all means, wear one. What we need are drivers who are conscious of cyclists in traffic and a legal system that prosecutes drivers in consequential ways for harming cyclists and pedestrians. I think only Denmark and the Netherlands really do what needs to be done as far as enforcement is concerned and how many helmets do you see there. You see them on tourists. 😊

Having lived in both America and Canada, I've found that I pay roughly the same amount in taxes in both countries. However, in Canada, I receive significantly more benefits and services for my tax dollars. Many Americans harbor a strong disdain for their government and are reluctant to part with their money because they have rarely experienced effective governance.

As a Canadian, I forced myself to use military time (24 hr clock), despite the fact that rest of my country uses the 12 hr clock. I still use it and it's far more intuitive. I never get times confused anymore and conversion is really easy.

About encryption: You'd assume that every password database works like this: Add somekinda account specific data to the password and encrypt with a one-way function the result. Store that as the password of the account. When the user logs in add the same account specific data to the keyed in password and encrypt withe the same function then compare the result into the stored encyrption value. Yeah, I haven't seen any of this in the Norwegian course, which is the only one I'm doing. I remember seeing in their blog talking about lip syncing their characters, and I got super excited. I'm hard of hearing, and I have to use lip reading to supplement my understanding. It's just as important for fluency for me as other listening skills. I've never seen a single animation using them, which makes me pretty sad and disappointed. That said, I'm just happy they haven't messed with my course progress. I've been learning for like a year and a half and am almost at 2000 words.
